This is a recommendations list for students (or anyone really) made up of some of my favorite books. If you have any suggestions, feel free to recommend a book and it may be added. This is one of those pages that can go on forever, since there are so many incredible books for everyone to enjoy!
This is an incredible series of historical fiction that follows a young girl, Mary "Jacky" Faber and her adventures throughout the globe beginning in the very late 1700s. She goes to America, meets Napoleón, and even manages to make it to Australia and the Far East. Some mature content.
This book is an example of magical realism, and it follows a young Mexican boy's journey into becoming an adult and a curandera (Mexican Healer Woman) Ultima that helps him along the way.
One of the first dystopian books that I read. It is set in the future in North America and it follows Katniss, a young girl that enters the Hunger Games, a widely televised event where 24 children go into an arena, and only one comes out.
The series that nurtured my love of mythology, especially Greek. The original series follows Percy Jackson, a half-human, half-Greek God, and his adventures, the first having to do with Zeus' missing lightning bolt.
A favorite series of mine, that follows the adventures of Jack, a young boy growing up in England, who becomes the apprentice of a Bard. Ice Giants, a Girl that can speak to birds, and faeries galore!
Another book set in the future, where cloning has become the norm. This book follows a young boy, Matt, the clone of El Patrón, a drug lord that is getting old, and some of his organs are beginning to fail again...
